New records set at Recycle Swap Shop

Thanks to everyone who came and made today’s Recycle Swap Shop a great success! We were at St Mary’s Centre in Rye again, after having to cancel the planned October event, and this time there wasn’t snow on the ground, like there was last year.

We had some amazing results, with new records set for the number and weight of items taken, and 20% more people than the same event in January 2013. Here’s the details:

  • 273 visitors, about half of whom took items away
  • about 770 items taken, weighing 325kg
  • 70kg leftovers taken to charity shops or other places for reuse.
  • 83kg recycled
  • 20kg landfill

In percentage terms, that means 79% was reused, 17% recycled and just 4% to landfill! Also worth noting is that the total weight reused through all the recycle swap shop events is now 1.8 tonnes, with a further 0.5 tonnes to charity shops.
